St MICHAELS INFANT SCHOOL, MAIDSTONE, KENT.
Go through the pretty entrance to The Secret Garden where a previously wasted narrow space will become a productive garden – growing vertically.
We are fortunate enough to have been invited to work with this school over many years. The most recent request of their enthusiastic Head teacher Mrs Priddle, was to utilise a very narrow space and turn it into an area where the children could grow a variety of plants. Our answer was a series of vertical “gardens” each with two troughs deep enough for vegetables and a ledge for easy to rotate pots or lightweight troughs. The entrance of The Secret Garden is through a hand engraved arch flanked with trellis walls and two planters . The whole will look even prettier when clothed with climbing plants whether ornamental or edible such as runner beans. We look forward to showcasing the results next summer.
